Mini-Review, KitchenAid Professional Stand Mixer
KitchenAid Professional 6-Quart Stand Mixer, Empire Red
Guide Price: $429.00 (but check Amazon, etc. for discounts)
Available at Amazon and at your local household goods store

This is the ultimate stand food mixer. Designed with the same engineering principals in mind as a tank, submarine or industrial diamond crusher. It is literally built to last forever and looks so good on your counter top. Think of it as a Hummer for chefs.

OK, now that's out of the way, this is a really good mixer offering bags of power and a prodigious capacity. This is the kind you want for Thanksgiving or making that big batch of banana bread for the Boy Scouts fund raiser. The large stainless steel bowl holds a massive amount of pastry, dough or egg whites and the 10 settings allow you real control over the mixing process. We loved the way the bowl snapped onto two industrial sized steel pegs to ensure it didn't move even under extreme conditions.

Build quality is superb. Joking aside everything is so well made it is obviously intended to withstand an enormous amount of use and abuse in any kind of kitchen. The thing way about two tons so it doesn't even begin to move under heavy load.

We were perplexed at the seemingly slow speed of the beaters at first. Later we understood that they are just so much larger than a regular beater that they appear to move at a slower pace. We came to appreciate the wide range of speed settings and the ability to easily add additional ingredients into the wide bowl without stopping the motor.

Cleanup is a snap. This is especially true for the beaters which are large and easily cleaned with no fiddly corners or inaccessible crevices. There is a port on the front for accessories and the catalog lists a large range of additional items that you can add as you need them.

After a couple of weeks of use, we have to confess to being absolutely smitten with this red monster. It looks good, works flawlessly and does a great job under any circumstances. It would make a fabulous gift for the chef in your life and rapidly become a family heirloom. It really is a great status symbol as well. Can someone pass me the Hummer catalog?
