Exchange Street Bistro
If I lived closer it is certainly a place I would visit when hunger or the need for a convivial evening stuck me - an ideal neighborhood restaurant, They have a great lunch trade and the bar is popular for drop-ins and as a meeting place. All-in-all Exchange Street hits the right note for the area and the clientele. They have a terrific menu, excellent wines and cocktails and the service is just right.

Cambridge Brewing Company
Back in the early 70s, the beer drinking legions in Great Britain, revolted against a bland mass-produced beer that was being served by bars and public houses. A powerful grass roots campaign called "The Campaign for Real Ale ," swept the nation as the ale drinkersdemanded and got micro-brewed beers and ale from small breweries. The result was a proliferation of really splendid drinks, that packed the flavor and complexity that no mass-produced beer can ever seem
to obtain.

Roadhouse Cafe, Hyannis
Located in the heart of Hyannis is one of Cape Cod's most familiar landmarks, The Roadhouse Café. This superb restaurant, was started 25 years ago by David Columbo the current owner.

Avila, Boston - Mediteranean Chic
In the same way that there are very successful theater impresarios there are some restaurateurs in Boston who have the magic touch when it comes to new and super successful restaurants. Steve DiFillipo is Boston's restaurant industry Andrew Lloyd Weber. He has an extraordinarily sure hand when it comes to catching the dining mood of Boston's public. Aided by Eleanor Arpino, Vice President of Operations, Steve has opened this new restaurant at One Charles Street South to rave
reviews from restaurant critics and probably even a theater critic or two.

Fairview Inn - A better kind of beach view
The Fairview Inn is just that, a renovated inn with an extremely pleasant view of the ocean. It's a fine building meticulously rebuilt after a fire by Paul Disch, about five years ago. There is a large deck with ocean views, a splendid bar and an open dining room. Upstairs are a number of bedrooms that offer extensive views of the ocean with nothing between them and Europe, other than a great deal of water.

Great Bay - There is nothing fishy going on here
The overall atmosphere at Great Bay is pleasantly relaxed and convivial. The staff execute their duties with a constrained enthusiasm and they appear knowledgeable and helpful. No gushing welcomes here, but rather an understated attentiveness there reminded me vaguely of the best in butlering. Maybe because our waiter was a namesake called James, the ideal name for the role.

LTK - The Kind of Test We Should All Take
There are a lot of things that really are different about LTK. The menu consists of a variety of small plates rather than larger entrées (although there are some available for dining traditionalists), a really innovative way of serving wine and a relaxed dining space with the emphasis on informal dining rather than traditional white table cloths.

Kashmir on Newbury Street, Boston
Kashmir provides authentic Indian cuisine with a very accessible menu that can be enjoyed both by “curry newbies” and hardened Indian food groupies alike. We chose to eat outside on the lower of the two patios that face out onto Newbury Street. This is a great place to enjoy people watching as the sun sets and the hungry after work crowds mill around on the sidewalk of what is one of the best people watching streets in Boston.

Conundrum in Cambridge Square (NOW CLOSED)
You can't get away the fact that this is a small restaurant, but it more than compensates with a cozy, sophisticated and friendly atmosphere. In many ways, this is an ideal spot for a couple wanting a quiet dinner for two or a bunch of friends who want to dine together in a secluded spot.

MEZE Estiatorio in Charlestown (SADLY NOW CLOSED)
Greek cuisine is not something you try everyday, and I suspect most folks are unaware how much it too has improved in the last decade or so. Meze features high-end Greek cuisine, skillfully prepared and served. Meze Estiatoria is one such restaurant.

Jasper White's Summer Shack
The big shock was, instead of continuing his reign as one of the early superstar chefs in the world of foodies, he chose to take on a more expansive role as a provider of brilliantly cooked seafood for the masses. Sort of Robin Hood of the restaurant business.

Radius
Radius has long enjoyed being the undisputed champ of high-end dining in downtown Boston. Despite many competitors, the combined talents of Executive Chef Michael Schlow and Chef Patrick Connolly serve to keep the competition at bay.

Via Matta
Via Matta apparently stands for zany or crazy in Italian. There is nothing crazy about this restaurant however, this is one of the establishments that helps to redefine today's American interpretation of modern Italian cuisine.

Costatinos
DePasquale Plaza is at the heart of Atwells Avenue and for many, represents the spirit of Federal Hill. Almost everybody who visits Providence knows of Venda Ravioli and the splendid selection of Italian foods they offer. Owned by the same family, Costantino's sits opposite. Venda's on the other side of the square. Somewhat tucked out of the way, this excellent restaurant offers traditional Italian cuisine with something of a modern twist.

33 Restaurant and Lounge
33 changes like a chameleon as the suit-clad after-work crowd morphs into the late-night bar and dining scene. Many restaurants try and address more the one audience and fail miserably; 33's distinction is its ability to please foodies on one level and attract late-night revelers on the other.

Davio's - Standing Tall
Davio's is a successful transplant from its original location on Newbury Street. Moving to the Paine Furniture building on Arlington Street in 1986, Davio's has become one of the "ubber" restaurants among Boston's dining cognoscenti. That's not to say it's pretentious or elitist, not at all, it's just outstandingly good. In fact, Davio's is a surprisingly cosmopolitan place.

Masala Art - an Exotic and Spicy Journey
Masala Art in Needham is a very unusual place. It is an upscale Indian restaurant, that features a terrific wine bar and an extraordinary “spice bar”. This cunning combination makes for a really entertaining evening with some of the best food to be had anywhere in the Needham area.

Providence's Best - Gracie's
I had an argument about restaurants the other day. Well, maybe more of an animated conversation than an actual argument. It centered around, what is really important about a restaurant? What makes a restaurant great as opposed to just run of the mill?

A Charming Surprise - Truffles.
Howard kindly walked us to the door as we left. I was struck with the thought that if only the town I lived in had a neighborhood restaurant this good, then life would be a great deal sweeter. Congratulations to Anna and Howard Wallach, they have created a superb restaurant with great wines, good service and fair prices. Definitely worth a drive to enjoy a first rate meal.

Rhapsody in Blue – Indigo. (NOW CLOSED)
I have waxed lyrical before about the wonders of dining out of town. How prices are more reasonable and how often the food equals the best Boston restaurants. The only snag is that you have to find the few places that deliver on this promise and this article is about one of my favorites. Indigo is a small and totally wonderful restaurant in a strip mall in Needham.

Ole Mexican Grill - A Review.
How about something different for a change – some Mexican fine dining? High-end Mexican food really is very good. It is popular in the Southwestern states, it just hasn't taken off in New England. What's different about “Mexican fine dining”, as opposed to your run-of-the-mill Mexican food?

BonCaldo - The King of Route 1?
If you have traveled north of the Gillette Stadium on Route 1, then you will probably agree that it is really an unlikely spot for a good restaurant. As you drive along you see a plethora of businesses, automobile dealers and the ever present Dunkin' Donuts, but little in the way of decent restaurants, especially an authentic high-end Italian one.
